Integrating Communications, Assessment and Tactics (ICAT)
The Department of Public Safety is committed to a non-escalatory, restorative and relational approach to public safety work. In an effort to use best practices and follow the latest research in effective law enforcement models, we have adopted the ICAT training program within our department.
The mission of this program is to train officers to safely resolve incidents with individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others but are not carrying firearms. It also trains officers to recognize and respond appropriately to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and those experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis.
