The Department of Public Safety is now recruiting lateral, sworn police officers who will expand a foundation of complex, compassionate and diversified safety services to the university community. Anticipated starting pay range is $33.68-$45.94 per hour commensurate with training, education, and experience.

Reporting to the OSU Police Sergeant, the OSU Police Officer is a uniformed trained individual in accordance with applicable Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) requirements, applicable state law, and OSU Department of Public Safety policy to exercise the authorities of a police officer. The OSU Police Officer will act at all times in support of the
University’s mission and goals, and is expected to exercise their authorities in support of the University, and in a manner consistent with the organization’s values, University policy, department polices, and in a manner supportive of the culture of the OSU community.

The OSU Police Officer will provide a full range of law enforcement and security services. Police Officers will enforce laws, investigate calls, complaints and suspicious matters and incidents which may have an impact on the University, maintain order, assist people, identify criminal activity, apprehend offenders, and identify the source of problems in the OSU community and work with other law enforcement agencies to resolve issues.

The OSU Police Officer will support the department’s mission by providing essential functions while respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals. This position will work both independently and cooperatively to provide pro-active police protection and crime prevention consistent with community policing standards. This position will ensure the safety of the OSU community in an orderly, efficient, and professional manner. It is expected that the OSU Police Officer will conduct
investigations of issues and crimes which lead to identification, apprehension, and prosecution of offenders.
